Faith Baptist Church of Folsom officially opened on Sunday, March 3, 2002, in the basement of Joel and Ada Morgan. Pastor Derek Harm and his family had moved to Folsom in August of 2001 believing God wanted them to plant a conservative church in the area. During the first meeting, 85 people crammed into the Morgans’ basement! While many of those people were friends and family members coming to support the beginning of this church, God gave a core group of about 25-30 people. They met in the Morgans’ basement and the Harms’ house until that summer when God allowed them to move into the gym at Empire Oaks Elementary School.
That fall, the church’s Grand Opening was held. Faith Baptist Church had a great testimony with the school and became known as the “weed-pulling church” because they would have Saturday workdays to pull weeds at the school. The school custodian Tony was one of the first saved at the church. The church celebrated their fifth anniversary at the school before moving to a facility on Sibley Street. In 2009, after a period of transition under Pastor Jack Tillman, the church called Pastor Ron Perry to pastor Faith Baptist Church of Folsom. During the time at Sibley Street, God grew and provided for the church until it was time to move once again in 2015. While transitioning to the new building, FBC met in an interim facility they affectionately called the “purple church” due to its unique color.
In 2016, FBC moved into a newly remodeled building on East Bidwell Street. The location by Folsom DMV improved the church’s visibility and gave them even more opportunities for outreach into the community. God has continually grown Faith Baptist Church, providing the means to lease the annex next door as well. From the Morgans’ basement to a building by DMV and through seasons of change and uncertainty, God has remained faithful to His church while continually changing lives through the work of Jesus Christ. Come and see the difference Christ is making today!
